Welcome to Summer?

Hello folks

Looking forward to another great video course. We have a great mix of savvy vets and enthusiastic newcomers. This year we add a new twist of a group project.

I am really looking forward to the creative journey that this course has always provided me and the students.

Made it!

Sitting here in the rain slowly recovering from the week at Emma. I cannot express how impressed I was by the dedication and collegiality that was such a big part of the experience. The long days paid off with an impressive and very diverse set of products. One small glitch with a project that had no sound but everyone else is doing well.

Highlights for me:

Getting to know the students

The food

The sharing of expertise and experience

Everyone's kindness towards my family

Playing my first game of GTA ( while Mark and JR watched painfully at my lack of gaming skills)

The Herb Glazer theme song

Kent drinking his special beverage

plus many other warm memories that will visit me over the next while

Again a big thanks to everyone who participated in the event. Let's see if we can do something like it soon.

Camp last week

As preparation for the 879 experience I spent last week at Camp Circle o' Friends.  It is a children's oncology camp at Lake Diefenbaker.  There I run a media program for the teen aged campers.  We create a podcast, newspaper and television show every day.  It was a great reminder about having computers software up to date and bringing everything I could think that we might need.  There is no Internet access so everything we create is for the most part original.  There is no advanced planningas far as the content of the media products.  The campers decide what is important and what they will do each day.  This means long days of editing audio and video and late nights delivering the newspaper.  Very rewarding experience and it gives an interesting insight into what kids are doing with media.  This year was my 10th year at the camp.

Just me

For those who are planning their week at the lake.  We will plan to be there after 12 on Monday.  The class will officially run until Saturday at lunch.  Please send me any questions that you have about the time we are there.  Also check out the graphic on Jon's blog.  It is great!

Good to see some of the ideas that folks are developing.  I am giving you my feedback but do not hesitate to view and comment on what the others are doing.  Make sure that you have set up your blog to allow people to make comments.

David asked me about carpooling.  If you want to send me an e-mail about your transportation plans I can help coordinate car-pooling.

As of right now I am bringing 3 iMacs.  If you have had any change of plans and need a computer please let me know.

Latest book etc...

Inspired by the Triumph of the Will I am working through the autobiography of  Leni Riefenstahl. I will have some good campfires stories to share.

Remember to think about bringing a favourite video or movie to share during our time at Emma.  It can even be a favourite scene or shot from a production.
